Christmas in Dublin

One of the highlights for those staying in any of the numerous atmospheric and welcoming hotels Dublin boasts is its Christmas Market, which takes place from December 3rd to the 22nd. Situated on Dublin’s Docklands, the neat wooden huts evoke images of Christmas tradition, whilst the arts and crafts available hark back to yesteryear. The smell of roasted chestnuts and raisins sends you back to your childhood as memories come flooding back of those special Christmases of youth. You can warm yourself up with a glass of mulled wine and view the lights as they twinkle against the dark winter sky. The Market is the perfect place to solve your Christmas shopping dilemmas whilst negating the need to do battle against the throngs at the malls.
Christmas is also the time for cultural events and Dublin has a wealth of options available. Carol services are particularly popular, whilst the Tallaght Coral Society will be performing a concert on December 16th with The Army No.1 Band. Meanwhile, if you are struggling for somewhere to take the grandchildren, look no further than the stage show of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ or a traditional pantomime always goes down a treat. ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’ and ‘Aladdin’ are both playing this year.
Finally, Christmas is a time to put your feet up and relax, so after a busy day of shopping and show-seeing, retiring to a restaurant or bar becomes the order of the day. With the fantastic range of options available to you here, Dublin truly has it all at this time of year.

Just keep in mind that on Christmas Day and – to a certain extend – Boxing Day, Dublin as the rest of the republic shuts down.
